It happened a few days ago. I changed my mind on being vaccinated against Covid 19! If wrinkles suggest getting older, and getting older means achieving a wider perspective based on a larger construct of experiences, then, indeed, it is wrinkles that have made me come to the conclusion that there are more reasons for being vaccinated by a proven vaccine than not.
Along that mind-changing path, I benefited from talking to a neighbour who is a vaccine administering nurse. Later, I felt more at ease by reading and learning more about BioNTech and its partnership with Pfizer*. I gave more thought to herd immunity and my part in calming the anxiety of family and friends. After six months of injecting people, Pfizer just announced a 95% effectiveness of the drug after the second shot*, with no alarming rates of dangerous side effects.
Old-time friends have driven two-thousand miles to get vaccinated in Alberta, just so they could see their grandchildren in Vancouver. The Internet is predicting limited travel opportunities for those who do not have proof of vaccination. In addition, my mind was not happy with being called an anti—vaxxer, and I realized that this would put me on the same level of perception as the religious right and their apostle Donald Trump. 😱😱
So where did I get stuck in my initial attitude toward vaccination? I know I had good reasons not to be vaccinated. It is a fact that no long-term side effects could be ruled out or predicted. There was the associated concern that older people were to be among the first to be vaccinated.
Why that concern for wrinkles?
Are they more expendable and therefore a more reasonable test vehicle for the program?
Why is there so little coverage regarding negative side-effects? Because governments do not want to alarm their citizens?
What about the fact that most people, even older ones, could survive Covid-19 without dying?
Would they not develop their own immunity to fight Covid-19 and its variants?
I realize that overpopulation is often described as the number one threat to the survival of the planet, and therefore why not allow or even encourage the pandemic to reduce the global population? Should I not be among all the other wrinkled people who would be willing to sacrifice themselves for the common good?
Hmm... am I starting to change my mind again? Are wrinkles that easily swayed?
Too late! The date for the Kiss by Pfizer and friends is now written on my calendar in indelible ink.
Somewhere in my face, one wrinkle is smiling at another!
